However, these technological advances are not widely deployed due to concerns from privacy activists.
This dichotomy highlights the moral dilemma at hand: how much privacy society is willing to trade for the protection of children? Supporters of stronger detection tools point to the limited intrusions people already accept in the name of public safety – airport security searches and DUI checks. However, scanning private digital communications is a different matter; a system built for one purpose can later be expanded for another.
